My Values
Jason Clark, 2007

  • Libertarianism as a political philosophy: I am libertarian in terms of social policy.

  • Economic policy: I am leftist/socialist, believing from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.

  • I am also a fiscal conservative and believe that:
    • Americans cannot endlessly borrow and consume without producing anything the rest of the world wants.
    • Public debt is unhealthy in the long run.
    • The Federal Reserve is unelected and unaccountable, and serves mainly to pander to the mob on Wall Street.
    • All democracies with fiat currencies tend towards inflation. The Fed has debased the currency (which hurts workers more than it hurts the propertied class).
    • Nixon taking us off the gold standard (35 years ago) was a terrible blunder.

  • Education: must have public funding, must be improved

  • Taxation: progressive

  • Support international bodies such as the UN, and other governmental works

  • Corporations need to be reined in -- they have too much power.

  • Public funding of elections

  • Separation of check and state, as well as church and state

  • The private side is important, too: no governmental intrusion, invasion of privacy, suspension of Habeas Corpus, and other horrors.

  • Foreign policy: we must not be a nation builder cramming our so-called democracy down other peoples' throats.
